Welcome to Livingston, Louisiana
Livingston Real Estate

Located in the eastern portion of Louisiana, the town of Livingston relies on its operation as the parish seat and forest harvesting for its livelihood.  The National Science Foundation (in conjunction with MIT, LSU and Cal-Tech) sponsors the Laser Interferometer Gravitation Wave Observatory (LIGO) on Livingston real estate, whose main purpose is to observe the gravitational waves originating in space.

History of Livingston
The Lyon Lumber Company out of Chicago was the reason Livingston real estate came into existence in the first place.  In fact, Livingston became a company town almost from its inception.  In the early 1900s, the Lyon Lumber Company has built a sawmill to the south of the town to harvest the multitude of pine trees in the Livingston area.  With the establishment of railroad lines through the town, other lumber companies soon arrived to harvest pine and other hardwoods.  By 1931, the lumber companies had harvested all the lumber in the area, sold everything it owned in the town (right down to the church), packed up and moved out, leaving only 12 families to reside there.  Those families went on to incorporate the town in 1955 and continues to harvest the forest to this day.

Livingston School System
Livingston Parish Public Schools oversee the public education of students residing in Livingston real estate.  Doyle Elementary, Frost Elementary and Doyle High Schools are the only public schools operating within Livingston's city limits.  There are also four private preschools that parents can enroll their children in for an early start in their educational careers.

Having Fun in Livingston
Although Livingston is a small town, there are still plenty of things to see and do.  The Denham Springs Antique District is considered a great place to go antiquing.  The Louis Bartus Hungarian Sausages & Pastries keeps local Hungarian heritage alive with authentic Hungarian cuisine.  History is preserved in the Creole House Museum.  The Carter Plantation is one of the newest and most buzzed about golf communities in Southern Louisiana.  And, LIGO offers tours of its facilities on Fridays and by special appointment.

Since Livingston is very much in touch with its people and surroundings, there are many festivals and fairs held in the area throughout the year.  The Denham Springfest is held in Denham Springs' downtown antique district the first Saturday in May.  Livingston Parish Kids Fun Day is held the second Saturday of June.  October is the busiest month for festivals, with the Creole Festival being held at the Creole House Museum, the Livingston Parish Fair being held at the fairgrounds, the Hungarian Festival and Hungarian Harvest Dance being held in Livingston and the Olde Downtown Antique Festival being held in Denham Springs.

Residents of Livingston real estate take great pride in their history, community and love of nature.  Come see why they are so proud!
