Welcome to Madisonville, Louisiana
Madisonville Real Estate

Madisonville is a wonderful small town in St. Tammany Parish located on the banks of the Tchefuncte River.  The total area of Madisonville real estate is 2.4 miles square.  This helps cultivate a small, tight-knit community where everyone knows everyone else and looks out for their neighbor.

Madisonville History
Founded in 1800 as the town Cocquille, Madisonville real estate was renamed in 1810 in honor of the fourth president of the United States (the sitting president at that time), James Madison.  Madisonville was an important port town that provided bricks and other products to New Orleans through the Tchefuncte River before the Civil War.  When the Union took over New Orleans, the Confederate run port at Madisonville suffered devastation to its local economy, which took decades to recover from.  The opening of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway gradually brought Madisonville into the Greater New Orleans area in the late 20th century.  Tragically, much of the town flooded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Schools in Madisonville
Madisonville public schools are overseen by the St. Tammany Parish School District.  The only schools physically located in Madisonville real estate, however, are the Madisonville Elementary School and Madisonville Junior High School.  Students attend high school in nearby Mandeville.
